A New Vicar for Great Missenden, Ballinger, and Little Hampden

The Benefice of Great Missenden with Ballinger and Little Hampden has appointed as its new vicar, The Reverend Malcolm Chalmers.  Malcolm and his wife, Janet, will join our community in June.

Picture1  Malcom was ordained priest in 2010 in
the Diocese   of The Highveld, The

Anglican  Church of Southern Africa, and
for nine years served as a non-
stipendiary assistant priest in the Parish
of Germiston in the Diocese of The
  Highveld alongside his role as
  Headmaster of St Martin’s Diocesan
Preparatory School in the Diocese of
Christ the King in the south of
  Johannesburg.
In June 2019 he was
appointed Associate Priest in the Parish of Bracknell in Berkshire,
and moved with Janet to the UK. Various changes during his three years in Bracknell mean that he has experienced life to the full in a busy town centre Church.

Malcolm and Janet will move into Great Missenden Vicarage in June, and once he is installed, he will take up the post as Vicar, and I have no doubt that we will see him around and about in the village.
We are thrilled to welcome Malcolm and Janet to Great Missenden. Those who have met and spoken with him have found that he has an infectious good humour and a true community spirit. His interests are wide-ranging and he has a passion for teaching and preaching, and for music. He has a warm personality and a zest for new challenges. He has written a message and asked me to share it with you all:

"Greetings to you all, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  I am both honoured and humbled to have been chosen as your vicar.

When the Archdeacon contacted me on Tuesday afternoon, Janet and I were into the last ten minutes of our trip back to Bracknell. As I was driving, Janet answered the phone and explained that I was presently behind the wheel, so Archdeacon Guy asked if she could put him on speaker phone. When he offered me the post, I was so amazed, I didn’t quite know what to say, and so Janet said to Guy that as soon as we got home, she would give me a cup of tea and get me to ring back, which is what duly happened. As Janet will tell you, it is not often I am rendered speechless. God certainly seems to have a great sense of humour.

It was a message that completed what had been a wonderful visit, during which we met many of you, as well as having the opportunity to take in the beauty of the churches, the villages, and the surrounding countryside. Your warm welcome made us feel at home from the very beginning.

We are both excited about being part of the warm family which the parish community undoubtedly is. We ask that you keep us in your prayers as we prepare to take leave of the Parish of Bracknell, and we will certainly pray for you, as we look forward to sharing in God’s ministry in Great Missenden, Ballinger and Little Hampden in the years to come.

God bless and keep you."
